Brian Keith Bowen Jr., a 26-year-old resident of Stilwell, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to four years in prison for child abuse. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced the sentencing following an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cherokee Nation Marshals Service.
Bowen was charged with one count of child abuse in Indian Country. He pleaded guilty to the charge on May 22, 2024. According to investigators, between April and May of 2023, Bowen inflicted harm on a child under his care. The abuse was discovered on May 2, 2023, when medical professionals treating the child noticed several injuries indicative of abuse, including fading bruises, petechiae, and a spiral bone fracture.
The incident took place in Adair County within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation Reservation. Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the hearing at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
Bowen will remain in custody under the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transferred to a designated facility within the United States Bureau of Prisons to serve his sentence, which does not allow for parole.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessie K. Pippin represented the prosecution in this case.
