U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced a temporary halt in vehicular traffic at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge on February 22 to accommodate the International Bridge Ceremony, also known as the Abrazo Ceremony. The event serves as a welcoming ceremony between officials and dignitaries from Mexico and the United States.
Port Director Alberto Flores of Laredo Port of Entry stated, "Juarez-Lincoln Bridge will be hosting this longstanding traditional event which serves as 'welcoming ceremony' between officials and dignitaries from Mexico and the United States, symbolizing goodwill between neighboring nations." He advised travelers to plan ahead to avoid delays.
The halt will begin around 5 a.m. for the construction of the stage used in the ceremony, with vehicular traffic expected to resume by 9 a.m. Travelers are encouraged to cross before 5 a.m. if using Juarez-Lincoln Bridge. As an alternative, Colombia-Solidarity Bridge will open at 6 a.m., while Gateway to the Americas Bridge will remain open for SENTRI participants and pedestrian traffic.
CBP reminds travelers to have their radio frequency identification documents (RFID)-equipped travel documents ready when entering through designated Ready Lanes. Border Wait Times can be checked online or via mobile apps.
