Instagram has announced the launch of several new features designed to enhance user experience in direct messages (DMs). These updates include message translation, music stickers, scheduled messages, pinned content, and group chat QR codes.
The message translation feature allows users to translate messages directly within their DMs. To use this feature, users can hold down on a message sent or received in another language and tap "Translate." The translated text will appear below the original message. Instagram encourages users to visit the Help Center for more information about this feature.
Music stickers have been introduced to enable users to share songs without leaving their DMs. By accessing the sticker tray and selecting "Music," users can search for any song in Instagram's audio library and send a 30-second preview featuring a spinning vinyl of the album. Additional details are available in the Help Center.
A scheduling feature has also been added, allowing users to schedule messages or reminders within DMs. Users can type their message, hold down on the send button, select a date and time for sending, and then tap "Send" to finalize scheduling. More information on scheduled messages is provided in the Help Center.
Instagram now allows pinning specific messages at the top of chats for easier access to important conversations or content. Users can pin up to three messages per conversation by holding down on a message and tapping "Pin." This feature builds upon last year's introduction of pinning up to three chat threads in DM inboxes. Instructions for using pinned messages are available in the Help Center.
Lastly, Instagram has made it easier to expand group chats with personalized QR codes. Users can generate a QR code invite by opening a group chat, tapping the group name at the top, selecting "invite link," and then choosing "QR code." The admin of a group chat can refresh these codes as needed.
For further assistance with these new features, Instagram directs users to its Help Center.
