Guatemalan national sentenced to prison for illegal reentry into the US

Enrique Diaz-Perez, a 38-year-old Guatemalan national, has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States. The sentence was announced by Acting United States Attorney Daniel Hanlon and Thomas P. Brophy, Field Office Director of U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE-ERO) in Buffalo, New York.

Diaz-Perez had previously admitted to being removed from the United States in 2009 after a conviction in Massachusetts for assault with a dangerous weapon. He was deported again in February 2024 following a federal court conviction in Syracuse for illegal reentry. In August 2024, Diaz-Perez was found and arrested in Syracuse while working in Little Falls, New York. Upon completing his prison term, he will face deportation once more.

In addition to the 14-month sentence for illegal reentry, Diaz-Perez received an additional consecutive four-month imprisonment term for violating the conditions of his supervised release related to his prior offense.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security-ICE-ERO, with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Tuck prosecuting the case.
