Texas woman pleads guilty to federal fentanyl distribution charge

A Texas resident has pleaded guilty to a federal drug charge, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Darlene Ruelas Flores, also known as Darlene Sheppard, aged 44 from San Antonio, Texas, admitted guilt to one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

The indictment alleged that on May 30, 2024, Flores "knowingly and intentionally possessed 400 grams or more of a mixture containing a detectable amount of fentanyl," which is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance, with the intention to distribute it.

This case was part of an investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration in collaboration with the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson accepted Flores's plea in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The judge ordered a presentence investigation report and stated that Flores would remain in custody under the United States Marshals Service until her sentencing.

The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard J. Lorenz.
