Shiprock man pleads guilty to firearm assault charges

A Shiprock man has entered a guilty plea to two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon in a case involving firearm use. Jerome Weaver, 21, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, admitted in court documents to intentionally assaulting two individuals with the intent to cause bodily harm. One victim required medical treatment for facial injuries resulting from the assault.

Weaver will remain under conditions of release until sentencing, which is yet to be scheduled. He could face up to 10 years in prison and three years of supervised release.

The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Holland S. Kastrin and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office.

The investigation was conducted by the Farmington Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, with assistance from the Navajo Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney Brittany DuChaussee is handling the prosecution.
