A man from Saint Paul and a woman from Mounds View have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in an armed carjacking incident in Minneapolis. Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick announced that Carvon Antonio Saine, 19, received a sentence of 51 months, while Isis Martinaz Brent, also known as Jayda Marie White, 20, will serve 41 months.
Court documents reveal that on October 6, 2023, Saine and Brent targeted an elderly victim who had parked a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu on a street in South Minneapolis. Brent used a Carl Walther 9mm semiautomatic pistol to demand the victim's keys. During the incident, one of Brent’s associates took the victim's bags by force, causing injury to the victim's hands and knees. The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned due to mechanical issues.
Shortly after this event, Brent and Saine attempted another carjacking at a parking lot on Chicago Avenue South. Brent knocked on the window of another vehicle and brandished the same pistol at the second victim while demanding keys. However, this attempt was unsuccessful as the second victim managed to escape.
The sentences were handed down by Judge John R. Tunheim in U.S. District Court with both defendants charged with aiding and abetting carjacking.
The case was investigated by the Minneapolis Police Department alongside the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Green.
