Spokane, Washington – A Wenatchee resident has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for receiving child pornography. Acting United States Attorney Richard R. Barker announced that Chief United States District Judge Stanley A. Bastian handed down the sentence to Justin Boyd Renteria, aged 34. Alongside the prison term, a lifetime of supervised release was also imposed.
Court documents and information presented during the sentencing hearing revealed that in summer 2023, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Department discovered Renteria's possession of videos showing young children being sexually abused by adults. At this time, Renteria was already on supervised release following a federal conviction for possession of child sexual abuse material.
On October 13, 2023, United States Probation conducted a search of Renteria’s property as part of his supervised release conditions. During this search, officers seized various items including a knife, drug paraphernalia, and multiple electronic devices. The FBI found over 200 images and videos on one phone depicting adults sexually abusing young children.
Acting U.S. Attorney Richard Barker commented on the case: “Mr. Renteria’s case highlights the serious consequences of repeat criminal behavior and U.S. Attorney’s Office’s commitment to holding accountable those who repeatedly possess or receive child sex material.” He expressed gratitude towards prosecutors and law enforcement agents dedicated to protecting vulnerable community members.
W. Mike Herrington, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Seattle field office stated: “Tragically, Mr. Renteria did not learn his lesson from his previous conviction and continued to possess harmful child sexual abuse material.” Herrington emphasized the ongoing harm caused by such materials due to their digital nature making them hard to eradicate completely online.
The investigation was carried out by the FBI with prosecution led by Assistant United States Attorneys Alison L. Gregoire and Rebecca R. Perez.
