A Guatemalan man living in Medford has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston for allegedly reentering the United States illegally after being deported. Christian Estuardo Sanchez, 41, faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien and is set to appear in federal court in Boston at an unspecified future date.
The indictment claims that Sanchez was deported from the United States on September 14, 2010. It is alleged that he returned to the country without permission sometime after his removal. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Sanchez on January 27, 2025.
If convicted of unlawful reentry of a deported alien, Sanchez could face up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine reaching $250,000. Additionally, he would be subject to deportation following any sentence served. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston announced the indictment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Allegra Flamm from the Major Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution.
It is important to note that all details within the charging documents are allegations at this stage; Sanchez remains presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
