Ismail J. Ramsey, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California
Esbin Ramirez-Garcia, a 28-year-old resident of Rohnert Park, has entered a guilty plea to the charge of aggravated sexual abuse in connection with an incident that occurred in the Marin Headlands. The plea was made in response to an indictment by a federal grand jury on August 22, 2024.
According to court documents, the incident took place on the night of August 2, 2024. Ramirez-Garcia was giving a ride to a woman with whom he had previously been involved. During the drive, he asked her to rekindle their relationship, which she declined. Following an argument, Ramirez-Garcia altered the route and did not allow her to exit his vehicle.
The plea agreement reveals that Ramirez-Garcia drove to a parking lot within the Marin Headlands area after midnight and proceeded to assault the victim while she was seated in his truck.
The announcement of Ramirez-Garcia's guilty plea was made by Acting United States Attorney Patrick D. Robbins, FBI Acting Special Agent in Charge Dan Costin, and National Park Service Investigative Services Branch Acting Special Agent in Charge Betsy Smith.
Ramirez-Garcia has been held in custody since August 2024. His sentencing is set for May 28, 2025, before Senior U.S. District Judge William Alsup. He faces a potential maximum sentence of life imprisonment and a fine up to $250,000. The final sentence will be determined based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant federal statutes.
The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Chen and Assistant U.S. Attorney E. Wistar Wilson with assistance from Sara Slattery, Maureen French, and Fernanda Gonzalez. The investigation was conducted by the FBI and the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch.
