New Jersey man sentenced to prison for alien smuggling

Kenneth Moore, a 42-year-old resident of New Jersey, has been sentenced to three years in prison following his conviction on two counts of alien smuggling for financial gain. The sentencing was announced by Acting United States Attorney Daniel Hanlon and Chief Patrol Agent Robert N. Garcia of the United States Border Patrol, Swanton Sector.

During the trial held in October 2024, evidence presented showed that on June 20, 2023, Moore traveled from New Jersey to Clinton County, New York. He intended to pick up several individuals who had illegally crossed into the United States at a location not designated as a Port of Entry. Moore expected to receive $3,000 for his actions but was apprehended by agents from the United States Border Patrol shortly after.

The jury was unable to reach a verdict on an additional charge of conspiracy to commit alien smuggling; this charge was subsequently dismissed during sentencing.

Moore's sentence includes a three-year term of supervised release following his imprisonment. The case was investigated by the United States Border Patrol with assistance from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Allen J. Vickey and Joseph S. Hartunian were responsible for prosecuting the case.
