Boston felon sentenced to ten years for drug and firearms offenses

Joshua S. Levy, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts

A Boston man has been sentenced to a decade in prison following his conviction for drug and firearms offenses. Francisco Gabriel Diaz, 33, received the sentence from U.S. District Court Judge Richard G. Stearns after pleading guilty to charges of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession of a firearm related to drug trafficking.

The charges stemmed from a June 2021 search of Diaz's residence, which uncovered a firearm, ammunition, over 40 grams of fentanyl, crack cocaine, and other paraphernalia associated with drug distribution. At the time of the search, Diaz was on federal supervised release.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Stephen Belleau, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration's Boston Field Division, announced the sentencing. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Boston Police Department provided significant assistance in the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin A. Saltzman prosecuted.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing gun violence and violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The program emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting preventive organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
