Ohio man sentenced to 10 years for role in drug trafficking operation

Daryl Smith, a 50-year-old resident of Wheeling, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for distributing cocaine base. The sentencing was announced today in Wheeling.

Court documents and statements revealed that Smith was involved in selling cocaine base within Ohio County as part of a larger drug trafficking operation extending from Las Vegas, Nevada to the Ohio Valley. Smith has previous convictions related to drugs and assault.

Following his prison term, Smith will be subject to three years of supervised release.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Carly Nogay representing the government.

The investigation was conducted by multiple agencies including the Ohio Valley Drug Task Force, Marshall County Drug Task Force, Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug Task Force—all funded by HIDTA—along with the Drug Enforcement Administration; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms; West Virginia State Police; Wheeling Police Department; Ohio County Sheriff’s Office; and Belmont County Sheriff’s Office.

U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the case.
