National Farmers Union (NFU) President Rob Larew has expressed approval of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) decision to permit the sale of E15 fuel throughout the summer months in Midwestern states. The decision, announced by EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, maintains the April 28, 2025 implementation date for year-round E15 sales.
Larew stated, "Administrator Zeldin’s announcement is a welcome reassurance to corn growers and ethanol producers in the Midwest. Expanding access to E15 and higher blends year-round strengthens the American biofuels economy, giving farmers new market opportunities while delivering lower fuel costs and greater choice for consumers."
He further emphasized that family farmers and ranchers beyond the Midwest are also seeking federal guidance to establish markets for E15 and higher blends throughout the year. Larew noted that NFU supports the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act, which has been reintroduced in both the Senate and House of Representatives.
"We urge Congress to act swiftly to pass this critical legislation, ensuring stronger, more reliable biofuels markets and a more sustainable future for rural communities," Larew added.
