Today, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth signed a memorandum to rename Fort Moore in Georgia to Fort Benning. The new name honors Corporal Fred G. Benning, who received the Distinguished Service Cross for his exceptional bravery during World War I with the U.S. Army in France in 1918.
This change is intended to highlight the installation's significant history of service to the United States and acknowledge the dedication of those who have trained there over the years. The renaming aims to continue recognizing these heroes as training continues on its historic ranges.
"Renaming Fort Moore pays tribute to CPL Fred G. Benning's extraordinary heroism and serves as a lasting reminder of our military heritage," said Secretary Hegseth.
