Susan T. Lehr, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Nebraska
Acting United States Attorney Matthew Molsen has announced the sentencing of Jose Luis Deleon, a 65-year-old resident of Grand Island, Nebraska. Deleon was sentenced on February 13, 2025, in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska for two counts of methamphetamine distribution. United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis handed down a sentence of 57 months' imprisonment. Following his release from prison, Deleon will be subject to a three-year term of supervised release as there is no parole in the federal system.
The charges against Deleon stem from incidents dating back to May 2014. On or about May 12, a Confidential Informant (CI) working with the Central Nebraska Drug and Safe Streets Task Force arranged to purchase one ounce of methamphetamine for $1,100 in Grand Island. The transaction involved the CI giving money to Deleon in exchange for 23 grams of actual meth.
A similar transaction occurred on or about May 22, 2014. The same CI coordinated another purchase of one ounce of methamphetamine for $1,100 from Deleon. Again, the CI exchanged money with Deleon for another 23 grams of actual meth.
Deleon's legal proceedings were initially set for July 2015; however, he failed to appear at that hearing and remained absent until his arrest in Houston, Texas in June 2024.
The investigation into this case was conducted by the Central Nebraska Drug and Safe Streets Task Force.
