Mexican citizen sentenced for role in alien smuggling conspiracy

Francisco Montalvo-Grenada, a 26-year-old Mexican citizen, has been sentenced to 36 months in prison for his involvement in an alien smuggling conspiracy. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Daniel Hanlon and Chief Patrol Agent Robert N. Garcia of the United States Border Patrol, Swanton Sector.

Montalvo-Grenada had previously pleaded guilty to charges related to the incident. He admitted that on May 15, 2023, he traveled from North Carolina to Northern New York with four co-conspirators and smuggled 16 Mexican citizens who had illegally entered the United States from Canada. After serving his sentence, Montalvo-Grenada will face deportation to Mexico by Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers.

The case was investigated by the United States Border Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Stitt.
