Apple has unveiled the latest version of its MacBook Air, now featuring the M4 chip and available in a new sky blue color. The updated laptop promises enhanced performance with up to 18 hours of battery life, a 12MP Center Stage camera, and support for up to two external displays. The new model starts at $999, which is $100 less than its predecessor, and offers an education price of $899.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, stated: “MacBook Air is by far the world’s most popular laptop, and today we’re giving everyone even more reasons to love it, including a big boost in performance with the M4 chip, a new Center Stage camera, and a beautiful new sky blue color.”

The M4 chip provides significant improvements over previous models. It includes a 10-core CPU and GPU and supports up to 32GB of unified memory. According to Apple, this makes the MacBook Air up to twice as fast as the M1 model. Battery life has also been extended by six hours compared to Intel-based models.

Joswiak added: “Combined with its thin and light fanless design... MacBook Air delivers more value to consumers than ever before.”

In addition to performance enhancements, Apple has introduced features such as Image Playground for creative expression and Genmoji for emoji creation. Siri improvements allow users to move between spoken and typed requests seamlessly.

The environmental impact has also been considered in the design of the new MacBook Air. Apple is committed to using recycled materials in its products as part of its goal to become carbon neutral by 2030.

Customers can pre-order the new MacBook Air starting today on Apple's website or through their app in various countries including the U.S., with availability beginning March 12.
