U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested Dieudonne Ishimwe, a 38-year-old Rwandan national, in Fort Worth on March 3. Ishimwe is wanted in his home country for rape.
Following an arrest warrant issued by the Rwandan government, Ishimwe was served with a notice to appear. ICE Enforcement and Removals Operations Dallas acting Field Office Director Josh Johnson stated, "Foreign fugitives who attempt to evade responsibility for their criminal actions should take heed that we will find them." He added that ICE is committed to working with state, local, and federal law enforcement partners to arrest and remove individuals who pose a threat to public safety.
Ishimwe had been living in Fort Worth without authorization before his arrest. The FBI played a role in assisting with the apprehension. Although he initially entered the United States legally, Ishimwe violated the terms of his admission. The Prosecutor General of Rwanda issued an arrest warrant for him on October 29, 2024.
Currently, Ishimwe remains in ICE custody as removal proceedings are underway.
