U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry have apprehended a woman wanted for an alleged sex-related offense against a child. The incident occurred on March 5, 2025, when CBP officers referred Maria De Jesus Nicanor Serrano, a lawful permanent U.S. resident aged 30, for secondary inspection at the Del Rio International Bridge.

Port Director Liliana Flores commented on the apprehension: "Our frontline CBP officers continue to be resolute in their vigilance and their attention to detail resulted in this significant apprehension of a woman wanted for an alleged sex offense involving a child." She added that such apprehensions highlight the critical role of CBP officers in maintaining security within border communities.

During the secondary examination, biometric verification and federal law enforcement databases confirmed Nicanor Serrano's identity. It was discovered she had an outstanding felony arrest warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child issued by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office in Garland, Texas. Following this discovery, the Del Rio Police Department transported her to Val Verde Correctional Facility for adjudication.

The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) is utilized by law enforcement agencies to share information on outstanding warrants across various offenses. Through NCIC data, CBP officers have previously arrested individuals wanted for crimes such as homicide, money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, and military desertion.

It is important to note that criminal charges are allegations until proven guilty in court.
