Air and Marine Operations (AMO), a branch of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, apprehended nine individuals in an attempted smuggling operation off the coast of California. The incident occurred on March 4, when an AMO Multi-Role Enforcement Aircraft detected a panga heading towards the Maritime Boundary Line.

The aircrew monitored the vessel while coordinating with an AMO Coastal Interceptor Vessel. After midnight on March 5, the panga crossed into U.S. waters, prompting agents to intercept it. Despite initial attempts to stop the vessel being ignored, disabling rounds were deployed to halt its progress.

Onboard were four Brazilians, two Mexicans, two Nepalese, and one Chinese national. All nine adult males were taken into custody and transported ashore for processing.

The San Diego Air and Marine Branch seized the vessel under violation of 8 USC 1324.

AMO plays a crucial role in national security by addressing threats through aviation and maritime law enforcement. It operates with around 1,800 federal agents and mission support personnel using 240 aircraft and 300 marine vessels across the United States, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is recognized as America's frontline defense in border management with over 65,000 personnel dedicated to safeguarding national security while facilitating lawful travel and trade.
