U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins visited Western North Carolina to assess the damage caused by recent natural disasters. Her visit included meetings with U.S. Forest Service members and local leaders to discuss recovery efforts.
Secretary Rollins toured the Blue Ridge Parkway, where she observed the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. She also received a briefing on wildfire operations and took part in a roundtable discussion in Asheville.
During her visit, Secretary Rollins stated, “I met with North Carolinians who have suffered unimaginable loss from recent natural disasters.” She praised the preparedness of the U.S. Forest Service, saying, “The U.S. Forest Service was well-prepared, assessing wildfire risks in advance and strategically positioning resources to respond quickly. Thanks to their efforts, they were able to contain the fires swiftly.”
Rollins emphasized ongoing cooperation between USDA, state and local agencies, and first responders in supporting affected communities. The aim is to restore public lands vital for rural residents.
Following her survey along the Blue Ridge Parkway, Secretary Rollins engaged with local officials and community members during a partner roundtable to further address disaster recovery strategies.
