U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers from the Area Port of Seattle recently seized over 18 pounds of methamphetamine at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The incident occurred on February 28, when officers intercepted a 33-year-old U.S. citizen awaiting a flight to Seoul, South Korea.
The woman was escorted by CBP officers to the airport's international arrivals facility. Upon searching her carry-on bag, officers discovered bundles containing a white crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. Subsequently, the Port of Seattle Police Department took custody of both the woman and the narcotics.
Greg Alvarez, Director of Field Operations at the Seattle Field Office, commented on the seizure: “CBP’s border security mission not only protects the homeland from dangerous narcotics, but it also helps prevent these deadly substances from reaching communities in countries around the world.” He further emphasized that such seizures help remove drug traffickers from streets and cut revenue streams for criminal organizations.
CBP is noted as the largest U.S. law enforcement agency, with a unique position to detect and seize illicit drugs before they enter the country. The organization is committed to protecting American citizens by preventing harmful substances from affecting communities.
CBP stands as America's frontline in border management, boasting over 65,000 personnel dedicated to securing land, air, and sea borders while facilitating safe travel and trade. The agency strives to enhance national security through various means including innovation and collaboration.
