Rochester man faces charges for alleged child pornography offenses

A Rochester man, Daniel P. Walsh, 58, has been charged with receipt and possession of child pornography. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo. If convicted, Walsh faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle P. Rossi stated that the charges stem from a report received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in November 2024. According to the complaint, Google reported that an account registered in Walsh's name uploaded multiple images of child pornography from his IP address to its platforms.

Subsequently, Rochester Police and the FBI executed a search warrant at Walsh's residence where they seized several computers and digital devices. A forensic examination revealed hundreds of images depicting child pornography, including content involving prepubescent minors engaged in sexual conduct with adults. It was also found that Walsh had superimposed faces of minors he knew onto some images.

Walsh appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark W. Pedersen and was released on conditions pending further proceedings.

The investigation was conducted by the Rochester Police Department under Chief David Smith and the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia.

It is important to note that being charged with a crime is merely an accusation; the defendant remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
