Justin Cabot, 52, of Newark, was found guilty of bank robbery after a two-day federal trial in Wilmington, Delaware. The case was overseen by Chief United States District Judge Colm F. Connolly.

Evidence presented during the trial showed that on June 24, 2022, Cabot entered the Bank of Delmarva in Laurel wearing a bright yellow shirt and handed a demand note to a teller who was working their first day at the branch. Cabot issued verbal threats instructing the teller to "use big bills" and "hurry up." The teller complied with his demands and filled a bag provided by Cabot with money and a GPS tracking device. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses captured Cabot leaving the scene and removing his yellow shirt. He was arrested five days later in Salisbury, Maryland.

Acting U.S. Attorney Shannon T. Hanson stated, "Cabot’s actions demonstrated his disregard for the rule of law. While no one was injured here, bank robbery is inherently dangerous to innocent bystanders and bank staff.” She added that her office will continue to collaborate with law enforcement partners to investigate such crimes.

FBI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge William J. DelBagno remarked on the impact of Cabot's crime: “Cabot’s use of threat and intimidation terrified employees of the bank he robbed. This conviction should serve as a reminder that the FBI will not waver when it comes to protecting Delaware and taking dangerous criminals off the streets.”

Cabot faces up to 20 years in prison with sentencing determined by Chief Judge Connolly after reviewing U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The prosecution team included Assistant U.S. Attorneys Eli H. Klein and Edmond Falgowski. The investigation involved collaboration between the Laurel Police Department, FBI’s Delaware Violent Crime and Safe Streets Task Force, Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department in Maryland.
