A Dominican national, Alexis Mariano De Leon, also known as Leon Leon, has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Bangor for his involvement in a fentanyl trafficking operation. The court records reveal that from August 2023 to June 2024, De Leon and others transported fentanyl from Massachusetts to Maine.
The investigation indicated that De Leon used a Facebook account and other methods to organize the transport of fentanyl to the Bangor area. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) facilitated several controlled purchases and executed a traffic stop on De Leon’s vehicle near Pittsfield in June 2024 with help from the Maine State Police. During this stop, authorities recovered over a kilogram of a substance containing fentanyl from the vehicle. Additional evidence was found at De Leon’s residence in Massachusetts, including equipment used for compressing powder into brick form.
De Leon could face more than ten years in federal prison, along with a potential fine of up to $10 million and five years to life of supervised release. A federal district judge will decide on the sentence after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors.
The DEA led the investigation with support from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Maine State Police.
