Mexican national indicted for illegal reentry into US

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson has announced the indictment of Marco Gomez-Arguello, a 36-year-old native of Mexico, for illegal reentry into the United States following deportation. The charge is in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).

According to the indictment, Gomez-Arguello returned to the U.S. after his previous deportation on October 28, 2013. If convicted, he could face up to two years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, up to one year of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.

Simpson emphasized that an indictment is merely a formal accusation and that guilt must be established beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America. This initiative uses resources from the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration and dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations while aiming to protect communities from violent crime. It involves efforts from the Department's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Simpson commended the efforts of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Enforcement Removal Operations for their role in this investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman from the General Crimes Unit will oversee the prosecution.
