In a recent operation aimed at enhancing public safety, U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Miami Sector, in partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, have arrested 10 individuals over the past three weeks. All of those apprehended are illegal aliens with previous convictions as sex offenders.
The arrests were part of a concerted effort to secure the Florida Keys and remove potentially dangerous individuals from local communities. The detained individuals are registered sex offenders with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The criminal convictions of these individuals include lewd and lascivious acts on a child under age 16, lewd and lascivious sexual battery with a victim aged 12-15 years, statutory sexual seduction, and solicitation of a child.
In addition to these arrests, two other significant apprehensions were made last week by Border Patrol agents with ICE's support. One individual, a Cuban national, has a history of violent crime, including a homicide conviction. Another Cuban national was arrested on charges of animal cruelty after reportedly choking and kicking a small dog.
These actions underscore the potential threats posed by individuals entering the U.S. illegally with violent criminal backgrounds. They also demonstrate the effectiveness of cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in addressing this issue.
"Each of these individuals posed a threat to the communities which we live in. The Miami Sector Border Patrol remains committed to protecting our communities and enforcing our immigration laws. I am grateful for the work of our agents and law enforcement partners who supported this effort," said Jeffrey Dinise, Chief Patrol Agent of the Miami Sector.
All arrested illegal aliens have been processed and transferred to ICE custody where they await removal from the United States.
