Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson has announced the indictment of Nelson Alexander Ochoa-Vega, a 32-year-old Honduran national, for reentry after deportation. The indictment was unsealed on March 13, 2025.
Court documents reveal that Ochoa-Vega was located in Jefferson Parish around March 10, 2025. He had been previously deported to Honduras on November 6, 2019.
If found guilty, Ochoa-Vega could face up to two years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, one year of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment fee.
U.S. Attorney Simpson emphasized that an indictment is merely an accusation and that the defendant's guilt must be established beyond a reasonable doubt.
Simpson commended the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for its role in the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis from the General Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution.
