Two Mexican nationals have been sentenced for unlawfully reentering the United States, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei. Jose Eduardo Soto-Hernandez, 29, and Salvador Eduardo Gonzalez-Ledezma, 25, pleaded guilty in December of last year.
Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane sentenced Gonzalez-Ledezma to 46 months in prison and Soto-Hernandez to 27 months. Both men are not U.S. citizens and are expected to face removal proceedings after serving their sentences.
Soto-Hernandez has previous felony convictions for sexual assault of a child and possession of a controlled substance. He has been deported from the United States twice before, with the most recent removal occurring in 2019.
Gonzalez-Ledezma has prior felony convictions for assault family violence impeding breath and harboring aliens. He was last removed from the country in 2022 and has been deported four times in total.
Both individuals will remain in custody until they are transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility, which is yet to be determined.
The investigations were conducted by Border Patrol, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda McColgan prosecuted the cases.
