Asheville man sentenced to over 12 years for drug trafficking and gun offenses

Tyrone Eugene Sitton, also known as "Dirty," has been sentenced to 151 months in prison for fentanyl trafficking and gun charges. This was announced by Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. The sentence includes three years of supervised release following his time in prison.

The announcement was made with contributions from Bennie Mims, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Charlotte Field Division; Jae W. Chung, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Atlanta Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA); Sheriff Quentin Miller of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office; and Chief Michael Lamb of the Asheville Police Department.

Court documents reveal that between November and December 2022, Sitton distributed 30.1 grams of fentanyl in Asheville. During this period, he sold fentanyl on at least three occasions to a confidential informant working with the ATF. On December 28, 2022, Sitton also sold three firearms—a shotgun, a rifle, and a pistol—to the same informant.

Sitton pleaded guilty on July 29, 2024, to three counts of distribution of fentanyl and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. Due to his multiple state convictions for drug distribution in North Carolina, Sitton was classified as a career offender which resulted in an increased sentence.

U.S. Attorney Ferguson praised the efforts of the ATF, DEA, Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, and Asheville Police Department for their work on this case.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex M. Scott from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Asheville.
