New Orleans man indicted for illegal firearm possession

Haven Patterson, a 42-year-old resident of New Orleans, was indicted on March 13, 2025, for being a felon in possession of firearms. The indictment accuses Patterson of possessing two loaded semi-automatic handguns: a Smith & Wesson SD40 and a Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard 380.

As a convicted felon, Patterson is prohibited by federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition. If found guilty, he could face up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson emphasized that "the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt."

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Chandra Menon from the Public Integrity Unit is handling the prosecution.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime. It leverages resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
