A man from Springfield, Massachusetts, has confessed to robbing a bank in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom announced that Radelle Hubbard, 47, admitted his guilt before a federal judge.
Hubbard acknowledged that on March 23, 2023, he entered a bank located within a supermarket in Smithfield and demanded money from the tellers by stating, “I have a gun, give me all the large bills from your drawer.” The tellers complied and handed over $2,420. However, they later informed police they did not see any firearm.
Court documents revealed that after Hubbard left the bank, a private citizen followed him and provided law enforcement with details about his vehicle. The Massachusetts State Police attempted to stop the vehicle after identifying it but were led on a chase when the vehicle accelerated. It was eventually halted using spike strips. Inside the vehicle, authorities found $2,341 in cash and a high-capacity firearm.
Hubbard appeared in U.S. District Court on Friday and pleaded guilty to bank robbery charges. His sentencing is set for June 24, 2025. A federal district judge will determine his sentence based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
Assistant United States Attorney Julie M. White is prosecuting the case. The investigation involved collaboration between the FBI, Smithfield Police Department, and Massachusetts State Police.
