Johnston man sentenced for leading fraud conspiracy involving luxury cars

A Johnston man has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in federal prison for leading a conspiracy that involved using stolen personal information to secure financing for purchasing Land Rovers from dealerships in Rhode Island and New Hampshire. Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom announced the sentencing.

Dennis Odoom, 27, admitted to enlisting others in the scheme. He confessed to providing a co-conspirator with a fraudulent ID and driving this individual to a New Hampshire dealership to acquire a Land Rover valued at $96,256 through fraudulently obtained credit. The co-conspirator was promised $2,000 by Odoom.

Court documents also indicate that similar fraudulent financing was used by other conspirators to buy another Land Rover from a Rhode Island dealership for $111,183.

U.S. District Court Judge Melissa R. Dubose sentenced Odoom to 30 months of incarceration followed by three years of supervised release. A fine of $1,000 was imposed on him, with restitution pending determination by the court. Odoom had pleaded guilty on December 12, 2024, to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Co-defendant Roy Sweets, 27, from Pawtucket, pleaded guilty on March 18, 2025, to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and is scheduled for sentencing on June 10, 2025.

Another defendant in the case is Adalberto Mauricio Romero, 28, from Providence. He faces charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

The cases are being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul F. Daly Jr., following investigations conducted by Warwick RI Police Department, Bedford NH Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations and the Department of Labor Office of Inspector General.
