A Louisville man has received a federal prison sentence of 16 years and 3 months for firearms offenses. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky and Special Agent in Charge John Nokes of the ATF Louisville Field Division.
Court documents state that Hassan Mohamed, 20, received his sentence for illegally possessing three firearms. One of these was a short barrel rifle requiring registration. Mohamed was previously prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions. In Jefferson Circuit Court on April 23, 2019, he was convicted of complicity to robbery, robbery, complicity to assault, and tampering with evidence. Later, on January 4, 2022, Mohamed was convicted of robbery, rape, sodomy, and attempted rape, all in the first degree.
ATF investigated the case, with assistance from the Louisville Metro Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Emily Lantz and Josh Porter.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) under Operation Take Back America, an initiative that combines resources from the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration, cartels, and transnational criminal organizations, while working to protect communities from violent crime.
In the federal system, there is no option for parole.
