Ty’nell D. Jimmerson, a 20-year-old resident of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced to 32 months in prison for illegal possession of a machine gun. The sentencing took place in federal court in Omaha on March 27, 2025, with Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. presiding. After serving his time, Jimmerson will undergo a 3-year term of supervised release.
The arrest occurred on July 28, 2024, when Omaha Police officers identified a Jeep driving recklessly near 60th and Ames Streets. The Jeep fled when officers approached, and the police helicopter "Able-1" tracked the vehicle to Orchard Park. Jimmerson exited the Jeep, discarding a loaded Glock 21 equipped with a high-capacity magazine and a ‘Glock switch’ machine gun conversion device. The firearm, reported stolen during a vehicle break-in, modifies a semi-automatic weapon into a fully automatic machine gun.
Following the concealment of the firearm, Jimmerson entered a waiting Nissan, subsequently followed by Able-1. The Omaha Police Department performed a traffic stop on the Nissan at 90th Street and Blair High Road, leading to Jimmerson's arrest.
This case is linked to Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program combining law enforcement and community efforts to reduce violent crime and gun violence. "On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN," according to the program's principles. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives alongside the Omaha Police Department.
