Reagan T. Fondren Acting United States Attorney for the Western District Of Tennessee | U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee

Timothy Edwards, a 49-year-old from Memphis, Tennessee, has been sentenced to 197 months in federal prison. The sentencing comes after he was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute drugs. This announcement was made by Joseph C. Murphy Jr., Interim United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee.

Court records showed that on April 1, 2021, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) began investigating a package containing 6,793.5 grams of marijuana and 1,247 grams of methamphetamine at a local UPS Store. A second package intended for the same location was discovered on June 3, 2021, containing 4.9 pounds of marijuana. Both packages were shipped from California to Memphis with Edwards linked as the recipient.

Edwards stood trial in October 2024 and was convicted on two counts of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute controlled substances, specifically marijuana and methamphetamine. United States District Judge Mark S. Norris announced the 197-month prison sentence on April 3, 2025. After his release, Edwards will undergo five years of supervised release. Federal sentences do not have the provision for parole.

The case was investigated jointly by the DEA and the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Memphis Division. It is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) operation, which targets and disrupts criminal organizations considered high-level threats to the United States, employing a coordinated approach involving multiple agencies.

Interim United States Attorney Murphy expressed gratitude to those involved in the case, including Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Kimbril-Parks for prosecuting, and the DEA along with the SCSO-Memphis Division for their investigative efforts.
