Andrew S. Boutros sworn in as U.S. Attorney for Northern District of Illinois

Andrew S. Boutros has assumed the role of United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. The Oath of Office was administered by U.S. District Chief Judge Virginia M. Kendall, following his appointment by Attorney General Pamela Bondi.

Expressing gratitude to numerous key figures, including President Donald J. Trump, Boutros said, “I am humbled and honored to lead the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago." He pledged a commitment to addressing "the important problems that face our District," and engaging with law enforcement partners.

Morris Pasqual has been selected as the Office’s First Assistant United States Attorney. Previously, Pasqual served as Acting United States Attorney for the past two years.

Boutros previously worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney from 2008 to 2015, handling cases of national and international importance. Notable successes included prosecuting the world's largest online drug trafficker and a high-profile mortgage fraud defendant. His work earned him awards such as the National Prosecutorial Award from the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association.

Prior to his current appointment, Boutros worked in private practice and taught at the University of Chicago Law School. His academic contributions include two books and nearly 160 articles and book chapters.

Boutros received a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
