Border Patrol agents in Kingsville, Texas, made a substantial methamphetamine seizure this month at the Javier Vega Jr. Checkpoint on US Highway 77. On April 4, 2025, a Border Patrol canine alerted agents to a Ford Escape during an immigration inspection. Inside the vehicle, agents found 90 bundles of methamphetamine concealed behind trim panels. The drugs weighed approximately 102 pounds and had an estimated value of $3,264,000.
The driver, identified as a US citizen, was taken into custody. The case was subsequently handed over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation and pending criminal charges.
RGV Sector Chief Gloria I. Chavez commented, "I applaud the efforts and diligence of our Border Patrol agents in taking this large amount of extremely dangerous drugs off the streets. We will continue to work with our partner agencies to help ensure these drug traffickers are held accountable."
