Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. In the meeting, both affirmed the strong partnership between the United States and Morocco aimed at advancing peace and security under the leadership of President Trump and King Mohamed VI. Discussions included cooperation on shared regional priorities, building on the Abraham Accords, and expanding commercial cooperation for mutual benefit.
Secretary Rubio reiterated President Trump's firm stance that Hamas must release all hostages without delay. He praised Morocco's leadership efforts to foster a better future for Israelis, Palestinians, and other people of the region.
Further, Secretary Rubio emphasized the U.S. recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara and support for Morocco's Autonomy Proposal as the basis for a lasting solution to the territorial dispute. He stated that the United States considers genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty as the only feasible option. The Secretary reaffirmed President Trump's call for the parties involved to engage in discussions using Morocco's Autonomy Proposal as a framework to negotiate a mutually acceptable result. The U.S. would facilitate progress toward this goal, he added.
