A Fayetteville man has been sentenced to 40 months in prison for distributing fentanyl and cocaine in Cumberland County. Charles Bernard Veal, 50, had pled guilty to three counts of drug trafficking in January 2025.
Court documents revealed that Veal, known in the community as “T-Shirt Man” due to his work as a screen-printer, was involved in selling narcotics including cocaine and fentanyl. In October 2021, law enforcement authorities purchased 56 grams of cocaine from Veal for $2,600 at a local restaurant's parking lot. The following year, undercover agents conducted two transactions in February, buying a total of approximately 111 grams of fentanyl from him for $7,200 at locations including a Lowe's Home Improvement parking lot and near Cross Creek Mall.
In March 2022, Veal was apprehended by the Johnston County Sheriff's Office after a traffic stop on Interstate 95. During the stop, officers found 57 grams of cocaine, a 9mm magazine, and a BB gun in his vehicle.
The case was announced by Daniel P. Bubar, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, following the sentencing by U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan. The case involved investigations conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the Fayetteville Police Department, with prosecution led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Logan W.
