Adam Gordon sworn in as U.S. Attorney for Southern District of California

Adam Gordon has been officially sworn in as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California. Gordon, aged 43, was appointed by Attorney General Pamela Bondi. The ceremony took place with U.S. District Court Chief Judge Cynthia A. Bashant administering the oath of office. Gordon's senior leadership team, office colleagues, friends, and family were present at the swearing-in.

Gordon expressed his gratitude to both President Trump and Attorney General Bondi. He stated, "I am deeply honored to lead this office and protect the people of this district. For too long, criminal organizations have exploited the chaos at our border. That chaos of criminality and lack of consequences cannot prevail. Together with our dedicated law enforcement partners, we will focus our resources on the Operation Take Back America priorities including securing the border, prosecuting cartel leaders, and removing dangerous offenders from our communities."

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of California, covering San Diego and Imperial counties, is known as one of the nation’s busiest federal districts with around 300 attorneys and staff members. As U.S. Attorney, Gordon takes on the role of chief federal law enforcement official for the area.

Gordon has been part of the Southern District of California as an Assistant U.S. Attorney since 2019, most recently in the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces Unit. He also held the position of the office’s Criminal Division Opioid Coordinator for nearly three years. Gordon was integral to the formation of the Fentanyl Abatement and Suppression Team (FAST) in San Diego County, a task force focused on targeting major fentanyl distributors. He has successfully prosecuted cases resulting in justice for families affected by fentanyl poisonings, including the prosecuting of a drug dealer responsible for a 13-year-old's death in Coronado.

His prior experience includes working as a Deputy District Attorney in San Diego County and focusing on violent crimes. From 2014 to 2018, he was in private practice. Gordon holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University and a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
