U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Carlos Antonio Zepeda-Ruiz, a Guatemalan national staying illegally in the U.S., who was facing charges of risking injury to a child along with disorderly conduct. ICE Boston officers apprehended Zepeda-Ruiz in Hartford on February 27.
According to Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston, "Carlos Antonio Zepeda-Ruiz apparently endangered the safety of a Connecticut child and presents a threat to the residents of Connecticut." Hyde emphasized that criminal aliens should not compromise community safety. "ICE Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing illegal alien threats from New England."
Zepeda had initially entered the U.S. on July 14, 2023, through the San Ysidro West Port of Entry by using the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s "CBP One" application. He was issued a notice to appear before a Justice Department immigration judge and was allowed temporary entry into the country.
His legal troubles began when officers from the Bridgeport Police Department arrested him on July 23, 2024. They charged him with three counts of risk of injury to a child and disorderly conduct. ICE Boston later took custody of him on February 27 in Hartford.
The public is encouraged to report any crimes or suspicious activities by calling 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or filling out the online tip form. Additional information regarding ICE’s efforts to maintain public safety is available on their social media platform, X: @EROBoston.
