Man sentenced for staged accidents and fraud, ordered to repay $107,951

U.S. District Judge Henry E. Autrey has sentenced Adrian Peebles to 18 months in prison for committing insurance fraud through staged auto accidents. Alongside the prison sentence, Peebles has been ordered to pay restitution amounting to $107,951.

According to his plea agreement, Peebles staged these accidents from September 2021 to January 2023, usually in remote areas and at night to minimize detection. During the fraudulent activities, Peebles would claim injuries and seek emergency room treatment. The treatment involved “expensive tests that never identified any particular injury.” Peebles then demanded that payments from the insurance companies involved be sent directly to him instead of the hospital. Consequently, he did not settle his medical bills. Two insurance companies incurred losses totaling $107,951 due to his actions.

Peebles, now 32, entered a guilty plea in January to one count of mail fraud. The FBI conducted the investigation, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Ware.
