Sioux City resident pleads guilty to federal meth distribution

Timothy Koons, a resident of Sioux City, Iowa, entered a guilty plea in federal court on April 10, 2025. He admitted to the charge of distributing methamphetamine. During the plea hearing, Koons acknowledged distributing over 130 grams of pure methamphetamine on two instances in March 2024 to a person cooperating with law enforcement.

Koons has a prior federal conviction from October 2010 for possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine. His sentencing is pending, awaiting the completion of a presentence report. Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand of the United States District Court will set the sentencing date.

Koons is currently held in the custody of the United States Marshal as he awaits sentencing. He could face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Additionally, Koons may incur a fine of up to $8,000,000 and at least eight years of supervised release following his imprisonment.
