An Omaha man, Larry Eugene Burns, was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison on March 11, 2025, after making threats against multiple federal law enforcement officers. According to court records, Burns had been on federal supervised release when he left a threatening voicemail for his United States Probation Officer. Subsequently, while in custody, he also made threats against United States Marshal deputies, using racial epithets.
Upon completing his prison term, Burns will be under a three-year supervised release. It should be noted that parole does not exist in the federal system.
Richard D. Westphal, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa, announced the sentencing. The case was investigated by the United States Probation Office and the United States Marshal’s Service.
