J. Bishop Grewell Acting United States Attorney for the District of Colorado | U.S. Attorney for the District of Colorado
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado has brought charges against two Mexican nationals, Caesar Ramon Martinez Solis, 41, and Humberto Ivan Amador Gavira, 24, for unlawful possession of ammunition. Both individuals were admitted to the United States on nonimmigrant visas.
On March 26, 2025, detectives from the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in Canon City involving a vehicle occupied by the defendants. During the stop, Martinez Solis allowed the detectives to search the vehicle. Authorities discovered an estimated 150 boxes of .308 ammunition and about 30 boxes of 7.62 ammunition, with each box claimed to contain 1,000 rounds.
The ongoing investigation is led by the Denver Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations, supported by the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and the Denver Field Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The prosecution is managed by the Violent Crime and Immigration Enforcement Section of the United States Attorney’s Office.
This case is aligned with Operation Take Back America, a national effort by the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime. This initiative harnesses the collaborative resources of the Department's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
The allegations remain as charges, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
