Honduran national in Utah indicted for heroin possession with intent to distribute

A federal grand jury has indicted Jose Manuel Osorio-Dominguez, a Honduran national residing in West Valley City, Utah, for federal drug crimes related to heroin possession and intent to distribute. The indictment follows a series of law enforcement operations that have been ongoing since February 2025, focused on dismantling a local drug trafficking organization.

Court documents reveal that on April 8, 2025, after stopping a 2014 Toyota Corolla driven by Osorio-Dominguez, authorities executed a search warrant. The search resulted in the seizure of 53 grams of heroin, which tested positive in field tests. A further search in Taylorsville, Utah, led to the discovery of an additional 118 grams of heroin and $5,000 in cash. Osorio-Dominguez has been apprehended.

The defendant faces charges of possessing heroin with the intent to distribute. His initial court appearance for the indictment is slated for April 18, 2025, at the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse in Salt Lake City.

The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Felice John Viti for the District of Utah. The investigation is being conducted by the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force in conjunction with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Special Assistant United States Attorney Peter Reichman from the District of Utah is handling the prosecution. This case is part of the broader Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and criminal organizations. It leverages the resources of the Department of Justice's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhoods.

It must be noted that an indictment is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a legal court proceeding.
