U.S. Border Patrol agents have arrested Hassan Mohamed, a Somali national previously convicted of armed bank robbery, near Fort Covington, New York. Mohamed, 43, was originally sentenced to 93 months in federal prison for armed bank robbery in Missouri. His recent arrest follows a citizen's report at approximately 1:14 a.m. on April 7, 2025, about a break-in at a barn.
Responding Border Patrol agents identified Mohamed, who lacked the necessary immigration documents to enter or remain in the United States. Further investigation revealed a 2017 removal order by an immigration judge. Mohamed has been charged with reentry after removal following a conviction for an aggravated felony. The charges against him are accusations, and he remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Burke Station Patrol Agent in Charge, Dustin Judd, remarked on the significance of this citizen reporting: "We can’t emphasize enough the importance of citizens reporting suspicious activity, and this arrest is a great example of that. It takes all of us to help make our communities safer and secure our nation’s borders. If you see something, say something—report suspicious border activity as soon as it is safe to do so."
The Swanton Sector, overseeing land borders in Vermont, New Hampshire, and northeastern New York, highlights community involvement as crucial in maintaining border safety. The sector encourages citizens to report any suspicious activity directly via their dedicated hotline.
