Timothy M. O’Shea, the United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, has announced the sentencing of Corey Hobbs. Hobbs, a 39-year-old man from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, received a 110-month federal prison sentence for distributing methamphetamine. He had previously entered a guilty plea on January 7, 2025.
Hobbs was involved in methamphetamine sales in November and December 2023, including the sale of 261.09 grams to a confidential informant on December 6, 2023. Authorities apprehended Hobbs on December 31, 2023, discovering $10,610 in cash during a search of his person and vehicle.
Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson, who presided over the case, pointed to Hobbs's extensive criminal history as indicative of a "sustained pattern of drug dealing." Additionally, Judge Peterson noted the significant quantity of methamphetamine associated with Hobbs as part of his relevant conduct.
The investigation leading to Hobbs's charges involved collaboration between the West Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department, and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation. The prosecution of the case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jennifer Remington and Colleen Lennon.
